Papillion is working on a beekeeping ordinance

posted Feb 7, 2012, 2:13 PM by T Sandoval
I just spoke with a very nice young lady in the Papillion planning dept who in response to my inquiring about beekeeping ordinances, said that they are in the planning stage of creating one.

Currently, there is nothing in Papillion ordinance specifically prohibiting or allowing beekeeping within city limits.  However, they do refer in general to not allowing insects.  Thus they would use that to disallow beekeeping.

She was very receptive to my offer of sending some information and resources regarding other cities success at new ordinances allowing beekeeping.  She also mentioned that although it has not reached the public discussion stage yet, we will be welcome to come and participate at that point to provide information and make our points about why beekeeping should be made legal.

The Omaha Bee Club will be keeping up with the progress of this Papillion ordinance process until we can see them approve it.

If you would like to be part of the research and support group to help in this, please let us know.
